Trump rallies for Paxton in Corpus Christi and Lubbock; Talarico holds rally in Lubbock

One week before the midterms, Trump held two Texas rallies for Republican Ken Paxton, while Democrat James Talarico held a competing rally in Lubbock in a close Senate race.

Posted Updated (5 d ago)

President Trump held two rallies in Texas on Tuesday, in Corpus Christi and Lubbock, for Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton. The midterm elections are one week away. Democrat James Talarico, Paxton's opponent, held his own rally in Lubbock the same day.

The New York Times reports the two candidates' events took place on either side of a city park in Lubbock. Fox News says the rallies put the Senate race on full display in what it describes as a deep-red town. CBS News says Trump criticized Talarico while campaigning for Paxton and is trying to keep Democrats from winning in Texas.

NBC News describes the race as close. It says voter enthusiasm in Lubbock, a city of fewer than 300,000 people, showed the stakes. NBC also says Democrats call this their best chance in a generation to win the seat.

The outlets differ on how often Trump has visited. CBS says it was his third Texas trip this month. The Hill calls it his fourth trip to Texas to support Republicans, but the available text does not give the time period.

Over the weekend, Trump and former President Barack Obama held rallies in Michigan, according to CBS News.
