Whitmer disputes Michelle Obama's view that America isn't ready for a woman president

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, said Sunday that America is ready to elect a woman president. She was responding to remarks former first lady Michelle Obama made last year, saying U.S. voters were not ready to do so.

Whitmer made the comments on NBC's "Meet the Press." The Hill reports she said she has many colleagues who may be interested in running, though its excerpt of her answer is cut off.

In the same interview, NBC News says, Whitmer said she is confident Democrats can win up and down the ballot in Michigan. NBC's headline for the full interview says she told the program Republicans "don't have a plan" to lower costs.
