Macron calls Trappes shooting a "racist terrorist attack" after one killed
President Emmanuel Macron called Friday's drive-by shooting in Trappes, near Paris, a "racist terrorist attack"; one person was killed, a suspect is in custody, and a 12-year-old girl is in hospital.
President Emmanuel Macron called Friday's shooting in Trappes, west of Paris, a "racist terrorist attack" and described it as premeditated, The Guardian reports. He went to the scene on Friday night and condemned racism in French society.
A gunman fired from a car in Trappes and neighboring Verrière, killing one person, according to The Guardian. Police have arrested a suspect, Deutsche Welle and France 24 report.
The Guardian says a 12-year-old girl was shot eight times and is being treated in hospital. Al Jazeera says all the wounded were seriously hurt.
Antiterrorism prosecutors are investigating, and French authorities had earlier said they suspected a racist motive. Al Jazeera describes the case as a suspected "Islamophobic" shooting. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said earlier in the day that at least one person was killed, NBC News reported.
