Trump rallies in Sioux City with Iowa Senate candidate Ashley Hinson

President Trump rallied in Sioux City, Iowa, on Thursday with Rep. Ashley Hinson, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate. PBS NewsHour reports Hinson spoke on stage before Trump.

Sioux City is in Iowa's conservative northwest corner. PBS says the visit to safe territory is meant to boost turnout, even as it ties Hinson more closely to a president it describes as unpopular.

CBS News reports Trump is trying to lift GOP candidates in a political environment that has worsened for the party. CBS says that has led some candidates, Hinson among them, to push back on the White House. Its headline says she pledges to do so. The short report does not say on what issues.

Hinson faces Democrat Josh Turek. CBS describes the race as tight. J.D. Scholten, a Turek campaign surrogate, discussed it with CBS News.

NBC News interviewed both candidates for Nightly News. Hinson told anchor Tom Llamas she is fighting to bring energy prices down. NBC noted this comes during the Iran war, and that a week earlier she asked voters to help give her campaign "a little gas money for our bus." Election Day is less than two weeks away.
