Two Latvian men arrested near RAF base housing US and NATO intelligence units
Two Latvian men were arrested on Thursday at a Royal Air Force base in southeast England that hosts US and NATO intelligence operations, and counter-terrorism police are investigating.
Two Latvian men were arrested on Thursday at or near a Royal Air Force base in southeast England, police said. The base hosts US and NATO intelligence operations. Counter-terrorism police are leading the investigation, according to a police statement cited by France 24.
Deutsche Welle reports the men were held for breaching the base's perimeter fence. France 24 describes the arrests as being near the base. The reports do not say how far the men got or what they were doing.
Both outlets link the arrests to events at another UK base. France 24 says the US military withdrew B-1 bombers stationed at that base days after a major incident there. Deutsche Welle refers to an alleged terror plot at another English air base that was recently foiled. Neither report says the two cases are connected.
