Actor Matthew McConaughey posted a video on X on Sunday encouraging Americans to vote for independent candidates in the upcoming midterm elections, The Hill reports.

He said independents could bring lawmakers "back to the middle." He also said the video was about the upcoming ballot and that he was not endorsing a candidate. The Hill's excerpt cuts off before he finishes that sentence.

Fox News reports the video urged Americans to rethink the two-party system. It says the message drew fierce backlash on social media and split his fans.
