Talarico hits back at Musk as Texas Senate race tightens

Democrat James Talarico responded to Elon Musk's backing of Republican Ken Paxton, while a CBS News poll shows the Texas Senate race close to tied.

Posted Updated (12 d ago)

Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico has fired back at Elon Musk, CNBC reported. The outlet describes a feud between the two in the Texas Senate race. The report excerpt does not say what Talarico said.

CNBC reports Musk gave $158 million in September to a Republican super PAC, which passed the money to a PAC backing Republican nominee Ken Paxton. The Hill reports Musk formally endorsed Paxton this week. It says he has spent more than $150 million as the sole donor to Texas PAC, which supports Paxton.

A CBS News poll finds Talarico and Paxton close to tied. The reports do not give the figures.

Neil Bush, a lifelong Republican and brother of former President George W. Bush, said he voted early for Talarico. He announced it Tuesday on Facebook, according to The Guardian and The Hill. CBS News quotes him citing "deep concern about Ken Paxton's record" and admiration for Talarico's character and principles. The Guardian reports he said he was "deeply troubled" by Paxton's conduct. Paxton is the Texas attorney general.

Fox News reports that a Barbara Bush gave $2,500 to a PAC supporting Talarico and used her real name in FEC filings. BBC News says Bush family support could influence some disaffected Republicans.

Fox News reports Talarico skipped a Bernie Sanders rally in El Paso and held his own event in Fort Worth. The New York Times reports a fight over polling places in Tarrant County has energized Democrats there, as Republicans try to defend a longtime stronghold.
