No Kings holds thousands of early-voting events across the U.S.

Thousands of No Kings events are taking place across the country on Saturday, Oct. 17, The Hill reports. The coalition is calling it a "nationwide day of action" timed to the start of early voting in many states.

The Guardian reported that the coalition planned more than 3,000 events, in all 50 states and Washington DC. NPR reports that organizers describe the events as a nonpartisan effort to get people to the polls.

The day marks a change in approach. The Hill reports that earlier nationwide protest days led by the coalition were aimed at denouncing President Trump and his administration's policies. The New York Times and NPR also describe this round as a shift toward voting.

Organizers say voting early can ease the burden on election workers and build voter confidence. The Guardian reports they also say it helps people avoid problems such as long lines and possible election threats. The Guardian notes the midterm races will decide control of Congress.
