Trump says Greenland oil, gas and mineral exploration is about to begin
President Trump said exploration for oil, gas and minerals in Greenland is about to start, but no evidence or details have been given.
President Donald Trump said oil, gas and mineral exploration in Greenland is "getting ready to begin," according to CBS News. France 24 says he spoke on Wednesday and called the exploration "massive."
Deutsche Welle reports Trump claimed Greenland holds vast and easily accessible oil reserves. It says he gave no evidence or details. Fox News also says details remain unclear.
Fox News reports Trump made the announcement on Truth Social. It says he cited experts who say Greenland's oil reserves rival almost any land. Al Jazeera and Fox both report he also praised the national security benefits of last month's deal.
The U.S., Denmark and Greenland signed that deal about four weeks ago. CBS News and Deutsche Welle say it expands the American military presence on the island. France 24 calls it a security agreement and says it followed Trump's repeated threats to seize control of Greenland.
