Democrats flip a North Carolina Senate seat and a House seat

Democrats flipped a U.S. Senate seat in North Carolina, The New York Times and France 24 report. The Times calls it the party's first Senate flip of the night. It says the result was not a surprise.

The Times says the seat is one of at least four Democrats need to win to get a Senate majority. France 24 says Democrats are trying to retake majorities in Congress and end Republicans' unified control in Washington. Neither report, as provided, names the Senate winner.

Separately, Democrat Jamie Ager is projected to win North Carolina's 11th Congressional District, a House seat Republicans held. The Hill, citing Decision Desk HQ, reports the projection. CBS News and PBS NewsHour also report that Democrats flipped the seat. The Hill describes Ager as a fourth-generation farmer.

The House seat opened up because Rep. Chuck Edwards, a Republican, did not run for reelection. The Hill says he made that decision while facing a House censure over misconduct allegations. CBS News reports the House censured him in September over "inappropriate conduct" toward aides.

An earlier version of this story treated the Senate report as a conflict with the House reports. The new reports indicate two separate races.
