Westchester scanner failures could delay vote results by days, Guardian reports

Voting machines in Westchester County, New York, were unable to scan as many as 250,000 ballots on Tuesday, The Guardian reports. It says counting those ballots by hand could delay results in the county by several days. No other outlet has confirmed the ballot figure or the delay.

The Hill, citing state officials, reports widespread problems at polling sites after scanners stopped accepting votes. CBS News reports, citing officials, that scanners were down at some sites. Al Jazeera places the failures at sites about 50 km north of New York City.

New York Attorney General Letitia James said her office is monitoring the scanner issue. According to The Hill, she said her office is in touch with state and local officials.

The Guardian says voting was mostly smooth elsewhere in the country but reports other problems. Voters were turned away from some Illinois polling places because paper ballots ran short. Heavy rain and flooding in Florida forced officials to move some polling places.
