Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will make an unannounced visit to Berlin on Tuesday, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said. Merz said Zelenskyy is due to arrive around midday.
Merz confirmed the visit during a speech to an industry audience on Tuesday morning, according to The Guardian. Rumours of the trip began circulating the night before. Zelenskyy's travel is usually kept secret until the last moment for security reasons, the Guardian reports.
Deutsche Welle says the visit comes as efforts to restart peace talks with Moscow are picking up. The Guardian reports that the two leaders will talk ahead of trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia and the US in Abu Dhabi next week.
